Back in May, I posted a cover reveal for DISSONANCE, the new Young Adult novel from my blogging partner, Mariella Hunt. Mariella and I have since formed a blogging alliance, and you can see our first combined post – a ‘Review War’ about Garth Nix’s SABRIEL, over on her blog.
Hi Mariella! Where are you from? Do you still live there?
I live in the Treasure Valley, a beautiful place called Boise where the skies often bless you with vibrant sunsets. In the past I have lived for two months or longer in Lima, Peru. Though also beautiful, it is very different from Boise. There are so many people in Lima that I found it hard to adjust there long-term. I guess I’m too quiet by nature for big cities, but we’ll see where life takes me!
Boise sounds quite peaceful! Tell me about your new novel, DISSONANCE! What inspired you to write it?
The ocean in Lima inspired me! We used to drive by the Costa Verde to get to my grandma’s house, and it gave you a spectacular view of the sea; Peru is a beautiful place. Looking at the waves as they stretched towards me, I thought of mermaids, and started writing a mermaid story. I don’t know how the mermaids turned into Muses; what I published looks nothing like the draft I started writing back then. It just shows how vivid and lifelike a novel can be.
You’ve done extensive social marketing with your novel. What was your experience like?
Confusing. I’m still learning the secrets to getting an audience. So far I’ve had more success on Facebook, having gotten a decent following on there, but I’ve finally gotten into Twitter too (thanks to somebody…)
(I think that somebody was me! I was happy to help out!) Tell me about your new blog! What should visitors expect?
Visitors should expect honesty. When I blog about my life I want you to see me as a person. But you should also expect interviews with authors and guest posts from very interesting people. I always forget to participate in blog tags but hopefully can fix that, as some of them really do look fun.
What are you reading at the moment?
I’m reading THE SELECTION, and I was reading it at the same time as SABRIEL last week…ever the multi-tasker… It’s really funny to see two different writing styles, but I’m enjoying both books!
You’re having a dinner party, and you invited three fictional characters. Who’s coming to dinner?
The Mad Hatter, Peeta Mellark, and Sydney Carton. It could be an exciting party, a confusing one, or a really really depressing one.
What are you favorite three books of all time?
The Phantom of the Opera, The Book Thief, and The Queen of the Tearling. (The Book Thief made me cry as a book AND a movie, imagine that!)
And finally, where can people find you on the internet?
Please do say hi! I love making new friends!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog, Mariella! And for my readers, thank you for coming and reading more about Mariella!
